Top Ice Augers

Nothing is worse than heading out ice fishing and having an ice auger that won't start, dull auger blades, or and old ice auger that doesn't perform like it used to. Sometimes all you need to do is get new ice auger blades, or have some work done on your motor, but when you have had enough and want to get a new ice auger, matching your new ice auger with your fishing style will make your purchase money well spent. The list of the Best Ice Augers focuses on finding different ice augers for different styles of ice fishing. You may find that the perfect ice auger for you is not number one on the list of the Best Ice Augers, but if it is a fit for you, then it is the Best Ice Auger.

Strike Master Lazer 2pc 6" Hand Ice Auger

This is the perfect ice auger for the ice fisherman who likes to head out early season ice fishing, needs something light enough to carry to the secret spot, fishes in shallow water, and still wants to be able to drill more than a few holes. The last thing you want to do when early season ice fishing is crank up the power auger, it is overkill when you only need to drill through 4" of ice. Even as the ice fishing season go on, fishing in shallow water, fish can be weary of too much noise, the Strike Master Lazer is quiet and is perfect for the job. If you like to go cross country and fish hard to reach spots, and taking a sled with your power auger is out of the question, choosing a hand ice auger is the smart move. I personally enjoy the workout from using a hand ice auger, and the soft rubber grips give you some relief if you have to drill a few holes to find the fish. Although not ideal for pulling the monster Northern Pike through the hole, the 6" hole size if plenty big enough for most fish you will pull up on a tip-up. So if mobility, light weight, and the ability to jig and set tip-ups is what you are looking for out of an ice auger, you have found the Best Ice Auger, in the Strike Master 6" Lazer.

Eskimo Sting Ray Quantum Ice Auger
Amazon Price: $299.97
List Price: $299.99

Strike Master Strike Lite Power Auger

I personally own two ice augers. I use my hand auger when the conditions call for it, like I described above. I also own a power auger, which I will upgrade someday soon. If you are on the market for a power ice auger, the Strike Master Strike Lite is a wonderful machine. Some ice augers can weigh 35 pounds and if that gets tough to haul around or even use, the Strike Master coming in at 20 pounds can be handled by most ice fisherman and gives you the ability to drill as many holes as you need. If you have an ice shack, have easy access to where you ice fish, or fish when the ice gets thick, let the Strike Master take care of the dirty work of drilling holes when the conditions call for it. Not to mention the 4-stroke engine, getting this ice auger means you are doing your part, being environmentally friendly. It is perfect for a day on the water with your ice fishing buddies, you can pop your tip-up holes and drill your jigging holes and still have enough energy to enjoy the day ice fishing. So if you are looking for a light weight, environmentally friendly, and powerful ice auger, then the Strike Master Strike Lite is one of the Best Ice Augers.

Eskimo Shark Power Ice Auger w/Viper Engine

This ice auger sounds powerful and it is. With almost twice the power of the Strike Master Lite, it is a men among boys when it comes to ice augers. You do need to know that it comes in weighing 35 pounds, but it can punch a whole bunch of holes through the ice. So if you are not afraid of a bigger ice auger and have a way to get it to your favorite fishing spot, look no further than the Eskimo Shark. This is the perfect auger if you wait until you can drive your truck on the ice and fish where the ice gets really thick. It might be a little overkill drilling through 5" of ice though. With a specially designed engine for cold weather and all the power you could possibly want, the Eskimo Shark is the Best Ice Auger, if you are not afraid of a big ice auger with lots of power.

Strikemaster Ice Fishing Mora Hand Auger, 6-Inch
Amazon Price: $47.99
List Price: $49.95

Strikemaster Ice Fishing Mora Hand Auger

If you are a more casually ice fisherman and don't want to fork over big bucks for a brand new power auger or a more high end hand ice auger, the Mora Hand Auger will serve your ice fishing needs just fine. If you are looking for an affordable hand auger to complement your power auger for early season ice fishing, the Mora also fits the bill. You probably don't want to drill through 3' of ice with the Mora, unless you only want a hole or too, but considering the price and it drills holes, you can't go wrong. So if you are a more casual ice fisherman or need a compliment for early season ice fishing to your power auger, the StrikeMaster Mora Hand Auger just might be the Best Ice Auger for you.

MAKO Ice Auger - 43cc, 8in. Dia., Model# M43Q8
Amazon Price: $249.00
List Price: $359.99

Eskimo Quantum 43cc Power Ice Fishing Auger

The Eskimo Quantum is 15 pounds heavier than the Strikemaster Lite and has about the same power. With that being said, it is around $200 cheaper. So if you are on the market for a power auger and aren't afraid of something with a little weight behind and want a more affordable option, the Eskimo Quantum will suit you just fine. If you don't fish on thin early ice, fish deeper water, or need an ice auger that can drill you a bunch of holes, look no further than the Eskimo. Finding the Best Ice Auger is really a game of matching how you fish, how much you want to spend, and not getting an ice auger you don't really need.

This is one heck of an article on augers. With all the info, do you work for them? Just kidding, but it is very helpful. Now I know what to look for in an auger.

I'm a newbie at ice fishing, can I use my 8" gas earth auger to do the job through ice or do I need a special ice-rated bit?
