The Traditional Large Cedar Chest

When most people are looking to buy or learn more about cedar chests, they probably are looking for a large one to put at the end of their bed, store shoes in the entry way, use the cedar chest for cabin storage, or to give as a gift to mark a special occasion like a wedding.

Did you Know there are mid-sized Cedar Chests?

The Cedar Chest pictured to the right was a custom made chest with a half tray. Typically when you think of a Cedar Chest, a rather large one pictured at the end of the bed comes to mind, or maybe a covered wagon heading out west with a families most valuable belongings in it. Regardless of the size, people choose pure cedar chests for a variety of reasons.

  • They look great: the one in the picture is sanded, not stained, but adding a light or dark stain adds a different look
  • Cedar Chests last a very long time.
  • A well build chest will keep the bugs and critters out.

What to look for in a Cedar Chest

Just as any thing in life, with a cedar chest, you get what you pay for. If you want a cedar lined chest, the chest will be just that, lined with cedar and made with pine or oak. If you want the Hummer of Cedar Chests, one made with 3/4 inch pure western cedar is the way to go. A pure 3/4 inch cedar chest will last and there is a good chance it will be passed down to the next generation.
